“THE END”
A. Why Study End Time Prophecies?
“So be on your guard; I have told you everything in advance.
And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Mark 13:23; Matthew 28:20;

You are honoring God by studying and believing His Scriptures! God’s Word is given to us to instruct and encourage. We are to study it so we are able to tell the truth from error and, through endurance, have h________.
7. LUKE 21:26-28 “Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Christ will be revealed at the e____ and will bring in the d____ of our Lord Jesus. God is faithful and will keep us strong to the end. He is our unwavering hope! (Rom 8:31-39)
9. We study the prophecies because God gave us so many scriptures concerning the End. Listen to Jesus' teaching on this and then look at the OVERVIEW that follows.
Matthew 24:3 The disciples asked Jesus:
“What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
“Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars...but the end is still to come....There will be famines and earthquakes. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then (Great Tribulation) you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (gospel to all: Rev 14:6) “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation’ (Antichrist)… there will be great distress (Great Tribulation), unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again…but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened… as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. “Immediately after the distress of those days ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 24:3-9, 12-15, 21-22 ,27, 29-31; 28:20
Daniel "...go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance." Daniel 12:13
“The End” is a significant term that we need to understand.
B. Overview of the Terms, Events and Timing of ‘The End’
(full study found in Section 6)
Words/terms describing "Jesus' coming and of the end of the age" Matthew 24:3
The last day: when Jesus comes and raises up all who have received him as Savior and Lord and clothes them with supernatural bodies like his. JOHN 6:39-44
The last time: when Jesus and our full salvation are revealed, and we are fully saved in spirit, soul, and body. I PETER 1:5,7
That day: when all who have longed for his appearing will be rewarded. 2 TIM 1:12, 4:7-8
The Day of the Lord: begins immediately after the rapture of true Believers at Christ’s coming. It is a time of God’s wrath that falls on all who rejected His love and life. It ends when God destroys the Antichrist’s kingdom. 1 Corinthians 1:7,8; Zephaniah 1:14,15,17; Revelation 6:17; Isaiah 13:6
Events leading to "Jesus' coming and of the end of the age" Matthew 24:3
The first 5 Seals of Revelation’s scroll must be broken and the prophesied events take place: Birth Pains consisting of Antichrist, wars, famine and death and then the “hard labor” (Great Tribulation) of martyrdom in the second half. Note that the Seals are NOT the wrath of God because those killed for their faith (seen in the 5th Seal) are asking, “When will you pour out your wrath/judgment, Lord?” REVELATION 6 The wrath comes after the 7th seal is broken and the Scroll in opened announcing the Trumpet and Bowl judgments.
The following events must happen as the 5 seal prophecies are unfolding:
Temple rebuilt in Jerusalem (perhaps with the help of a new world leader/Antichrist)
Restrainer taken out of the way
Great Tribulation, when the Antichrist stands up in the temple and demands to be worshiped as God by all the world. The mark of the beast will be required to buy or sell. All who receive this will be eternally cut off from God.
Gospel preached to every nation
Endurance! We are called to not give in but to overcome through the blood of the Lamb (our salvation), the word of our testimony (faith displayed by our words and actions) and the laying down of our lives (loving God more than life/martyrdom). The Great Tribulation will separate the wheat and the tares- those who belong to Jesus will be strengthened and the pretenders will fall away. Those who love Jesus and know his truth will invite the lost to repent and be made alive in Christ.
Timing of "Jesus' coming and of the end of the age" Matthew 24:3
The 6th Seal is broken and the sun is darkened, the moon turns blood red, the stars fall from the sky and Jesus descends with a loud shout and trumpet blast to gather up those who love him and know him as Savior and Lord.
Then the world is judged and the kingdom of the Antichrist obliterated. This is called the Day of the Lord's wrath.
After Jesus has Satan bound and locked into the Abyss, he will hand the kingdom over to his Father. The Father appoints Jesus to rule over the renewed earth for 1000 years.
To put “the end” in context we need to examine two more terms:
THIS AGE and THE AGE to COME
See study section 5 for more details
1 Corinthians 2:6-8
We speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery (salvation through Jesus) that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
10 Point Overview of this Age and the Age to Come
God created all things and is the owner. He has told us his plans and will accomplish them; His use of 7’s in the Bible gives us the “Big Picture”.
Adam and Eve gave their God-given authority over the earth to Satan when they obeyed him, rather than God. God promised that a child of the woman would crush Satan’s head. Satan has tried to destroy mankind ever since; This is called world history.
Jesus, God the Son, took back the stolen authority from Satan by perfectly obeying the Father and willingly giving his life in place of ours; His death paid our death sentence, for the wages of sin is death. Death could not hold him and he rose from the grave. In his resurrection he offers us eternal life. He delivers us from Satan’s abusive authority by rescuing us from the kingdom of darkness and bringing us into God’s kingdom of light.
Those who take the free gift of eternal life purchased by Jesus are declared right with God and are given the Holy Spirit as a Counselor to teach and comfort and empower. Near and far we are to show people God’s love and call them into the kingdom of light through a relationship with Jesus.
When a Christ-Follower (true Christian/Believer) dies, their soul goes to Jesus in heaven. When an unsaved person dies in their sin, their soul is eternally separated from God in outer darkness and distress. They did not turn from their own way to receive the gift of eternal life in Jesus and cannot enter heaven.
Seven final years have been prophesied to finish this Age. Christ’s second coming will happen within that final 7 years. Before Christ’s second coming and the end of the age, a number of events must take place. Jesus called these events birth pains that grow into great tribulation/distress. The Great Tribulation will begin when the Antichrist declares himself to be God and turns on Jews and Christians to put them to death. Most of the world will follow him and receive his mark of allegiance. A number of Jews will be hidden by God in the wilderness for 3 ½ years and many Christ-Followers will give their lives as martyrs rather than bow to the Antichrist.
After the distress of those days, Jesus comes in the clouds, with trumpet blast and shout, to gather those who love him. The dead Believers rise first and then those living, all clothed in new, immortal bodies, to be forever with the Lord. This is the beginning of “The End”.
Christ’s coming ushers in the Day of the Lord’s judgment when God’s wrath is poured out on all that is evil. These are called the Trumpet and Bowl judgments.
After the Battle of Armageddon, where the rebelling nations are destroyed and Satan bound, the raptured saints and redeemed Jews and a small remnant of the nations will enjoy 1000 years on a renewed “Eden” earth, with Christ over all. Is this the Age to Come or will it start with the new heaven and earth? We shall see.
At the end of the 1000 years The White Throne Judgment takes place, where all unbelievers, dead and alive, and living believers on earth, come before God. Anyone whose name is not in the Book of Life is thrown into the lake of fire with Satan. God will not make anyone live eternally with him if they did not love him in their lifetime. The New Heaven and Earth are created and we have eternity to explore and enjoy it all, with no more sorrow or death. We will forever be with our loving God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit and with all those who are his.
Scroll down to access a couple of helpful charts that allow us to see the whole picture as presented in the book of Revelation. As you look at the first chart you will see that there are chapters in the middle that do not read sequentially, but rather take us back to the midway point of the final 7 years. Knowing this, we are better able to understand why things already described earlier are being mentioned again in these chapters. I hope this helps you as you continue to press in and learn all that God has for you!
In Matthew 24 and Revelation 6
Jesus gives us a clear outline of all the events leading up to
The END. Let’s look at these 2 texts side by side and you will see that
Jesus clearly outlines the events of the End Time so that we can understand and prepare.
Section 2 is HUGE, so please take it in small 'bites' so as not to be overwhelmed.
